The Radial Pulse Wave Shockwave machine is an electrical device that has been shown to be successful at treating tendon based problems throughout the body.
Many different conditions can be treated by this device, including plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow, to name a few. These widespread conditions are often difficult to treat and take up many appointments within physiotherapy, orthopaedics and primary care.
The Radial Pulse Wave Shockwave Machine has a number of benefits, including:
- Giving our patients access to a brand-new intervention
• Patients will see significant improvements when using this machine
• Patients may avoid surgery or other interventions
This device costs £14,000 and has not been previously available to NHS patients. In November 2017 our Physiotherapy department was kindly loaned a machine to prove its benefit to our patients. In the one year that our Physiotherapy teams used the shockwave, they treated over 100 patients covering all the conditions previously listed. Overall, 71% of the patients that have been treated at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital have significantly benefited from the combined shockwave and physiotherapy treatment.
