It’s surprising to learn that over 150,000 men are treated at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital each year for a range of men’s health conditions.
Many face urological conditions, while cancers such as prostate, bladder or testicular cancers are also commonly treated by our hospital staff.
That is why we need your support to help us secure state-of-the-art new equipment to make treatment more comfortable and effective for our patients
Already in 2017, you have helped us to successfully fund a blue-light cystoscopy machine for our hospital’s Urology Department.
This clever piece of technology will help our hospital consultants to find nasty cancer cells within patients and also confirm that they have been fully removed after operations.
Thanks to the donations from people like you, the efforts of everyone who Marched for Men in March, the many events and fundraisers held as part of the Bournemouth Mayor’s Charities Appeal and the Bournemouth Male Voice Choir’s wonderful Sing for Life concert, we have been able to purchase this fantastic bit of kit.
But we know we can do more to support those facing men’s health issues and that is why we are looking to raise more funds to secure new ‘TURIS’ equipment to support our patients with prostate cancer.
We asked James Manners – Surgical Directorate Consultant at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital – to explain more about blue light cystoscopy and the ‘TURIS’ equipment, which you can hear in this video:
