The Orchard Garden enters its third Summer!
In 2015, Bournemouth Hospital Charity began an appeal to raise funds to transform a new area of the Royal Bournemouth Hospital grounds.
It was our aim to transform an unused and unattractive courtyard between the Jigsaw building and the Pathology department, into a pleasant and tranquil area for patients and visitors to enjoy between appointments or when receiving treatment.
Hundreds of people, community groups and businesses donated money or helped to fundraise for this project, which means so much to not only our staff, but to our patients who are able to experience it during difficult times.
Over the last three years, we have seen the garden blossom into the beautiful space we had hoped it would be for our patients.
Marie Miller, Cancer Care Matron at the Chemotherapy department in the Jigsaw Unit said,
“The Orchard Garden has been a great addition to the Jigsaw building for patients receiving systemic anti-cancer therapies and supportive drugs. Having the opportunity to spend time in a garden that has grown and developed into a beautiful therapeutic garden that meets the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of patients and their families, has added great benefits to those patients.”
We feel very privileged to be able to produce plans, fundraise for and eventually fund incredible projects like this, and it would not be at all possible without our loyal supporters. It is our hope that this garden will continue to serve as a peaceful haven for our patients for many more years to come.
